I work as a surgical oncologist at CION Cancer Clinics in Ameerpet. A surgical oncologist is the doctor who removes cancer through surgery. Most of my work is around breast cancer and cervical cancer. Oncoplasty, sentinel node biopsy, and robotic surgery are the procedures I do most.

Surgery is one part of the treatment, not the whole of it.

I fight for breast conservation wherever it is oncologically safe. That means I first ask whether lumpectomy will work, after looking at tumour size, margins, multifocality, and hormone receptor status. Not every breast cancer needs mastectomy. But in the cases that genuinely do, I do not hide it, I say so clearly.

When a woman comes to me, I do not rush to give a surgery date. I first check whether the diagnosis is complete. Often one MRI or receptor report is still missing, and that single test can completely change which surgery is right. I would rather wait for that one report than operate too soon.

I give time to explain the decision. I tell you in plain words why a surgery is needed, or why it is not. I prefer the family to be in the room too, because this is not a decision anyone should carry alone.
